The Optifast program is a 9-month LCD (Low Calorie Diet), a comprehensive dietary intervention utilizing the Optifast shake product.

Each Optifast group is composed of up to 16 patients, who meet together on a weekly basis for the first 4 months (during the liquid meal replacement dietary intervention phase) and then on a monthly basis for the final 5 months. In addition to the clinician-led group sessions, patients also meet one-on-one with a physician, dietitian, exercise specialist, and mental health therapist. All sessions, both group and one-on-one, are conducted in a safe, open, and supportive environment.

Pre-Screening Criteria:

  • Patients must have a BMI (body mass index) > 35
  • Patients must attend a minimum of 4 Weight Wise classes
  • Patients must complete regular food journalling in frequent consultation with a WBPCN dietitian

Patients who meet these criteria can complete a screening assessment with our Optifast Physician Lead and Mental Health Coordinator to determine whether or not they would benefit from participation in the program.

Program Mission:

The Optifast program is intended to facilitate not only physical, but lifestyle-level change: as anyone who has ever tried multiple diets can attest, losing weight is meaningless unless you can adapt a tolerable long-term lifestyle that you can sustain indefinitely in order to keep your weight consistent. Obesity is a condition that affects the entire person. Your physical, mental, and emotional states must be alignment in order for long-term change to be possible.

Our program focuses on every aspects of the weight-loss and weight-maintenance process in order to ensure that our patients are empowered to not only lose weight, but to live a healthy life of their own design.
