To access this program, you need a referral from a Family Physician. If you do not have a local Family Physician, please browse and contact a doctor on this list of physicians accepting new patients to discuss this program.
While we offer structured Weight Management programs like Weight Wise, our group classes, and Optifast, our liquid meal replacement program, we also regularly provide one-on-one care plans customized to the needs of each patient.
Your Health. Your Team. See the Health Professionals that you want to see
Patients who opt to pursue long-term care plans meet with the team of healthcare providers that they feel would best suit their own unique goals. If exercise has been a recent challenge for you, you might want to meet primarily with our Clinical Exercise Specialist; similarly, if you want to focus more on your nutrition, you might want to meet with one of our Registered Dietitians on a regular basis. You choose your own care team -- you can see as many or as few of our clinicians as you would like; the WBPCN team includes pharmacists, nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, exercise specialists, and behavioural therapists, all of whom can play an active role in a patient's Weight Management journey.
How to participate:
To participate in our Weight Management program, you do need to be a current patient of the WBPCN, or be referred by your local family physician. If you are unfamiliar with the idea of a Primary Care Network, it is important to note that we are a non-profit, government funded healthcare organization that delivers care in partnership with the Family Physicians of Fort McMurray; as long as you have a local physician, and valid Alberta health coverage (AHCIP), you are eligible to receive care. Referred patients are eligible to visit the WBPCN for as long as they like, free of charge, to work towards their Weight Management goals.
If you have additional questions about the Wood Buffalo Primary Care Network and our Weight Management program, please email us or give us a call!
