Bariatric Surgery Followup

PHYSICIAN REFERRAL NEEDED
To access this program, you need a referral from a Family Physician. If you do not have a local Family Physician, please browse and contact a doctor on this list of physicians accepting new patients to discuss this program.

Does the WBPCN provide or coordinate Bariatric Surgery?

While our Weight Management clinicians can explain different types of weight loss surgery, we do not refer or arrange these procedures at the WBPCN. If you are considering bariatric surgery, please talk to your Physician - to pursue this treatment option further, you will need to be referred to a bariatric clinic in Edmonton.

What kind of care related to Bariatric Surgery does the WBPCN provide?

Our Weight Management team frequently provides follow-up support for patients who have had bariatric surgery completed, regardless of whether the procedure was completed in Canada or internationally. We can help you to manage your food intake, and help to guard against nutrient deficiencies and other issues which are sometimes seen following bariatric surgery.

If you received bariatric surgery in Alberta:

You may be referred directly to the WBPCN for follow-up care by your local family physician. After an initial assessment by our Adult Weight Management Team, you may access any of our Adult Weight Management services and clinicians for ongoing support.

If you received bariatric surgery OUTSIDE OF Alberta and are experiencing complications:

Prior to accessing WBPCN services, your physician must refer you to the Edmonton Adult Bariatric Surgery Revision Clinic to be assessed and cleared.
