26% of children (ages 2-17) in Fort McMurray live at an unhealthy weight that could set them up for serious health risks later in life. Our team of dietitians, an exercise specialist, and behavioural therapists provide one-on-one sessions to support families in their efforts to lead balanced lives. The Pediatric Weight Management program focuses not only on health behaviours for the youth patient, but also on cultivating a healthy environment in the home that can encourage wellbeing in the entire family.
To participate, have a discussion with your Family Physician or Pediatrician about your child's weight. If your physician feels that your family would benefit, they might refer you to receive support from the WBPCN that can be integrated into the care that you already receive from your Family Physician/Pediatrician.
Contact the PCN for more details.
